Abstract

Aphasia can be part of the clinical subdural hematoma affecting the dominant brain hemisphere. The occurrence of aphasia as unique or predominant symptom of subdural haematoma is uncommon. The possible confusion of traumatic aphasia with stroke or transient ischemic attacks has been the object of most recent investigations. In our study, 6 patients with subacute subdural haematoma had aphasia as an initial symptom. We noted the relevant pathophysiologic characteritics in each. They had a rapid response to decompresion with marked resolution of the aphasia after performing the drainage.
