IL 28B Genetic Polymorphism in Hepatitits C Genotype 1 Infection
Abstract
The Discovery Of Several Nucleotide Polymorphisms (Snps) Near The Il 28B Gene, Which Encodes Interferon λ3, Was Strongly Associated With Spontaneous And Treatment Induced Clearance Of Hepatitis C (Hcv) Virus Infection. This Was A Major Step Toward A Personalized Approach In Hepatitis C Patients Treated With Standard Of Care (Soc: Pegifn/ribavirin). Despite The Progress Made In Modern Therapy That Associates A Protease Inhibitor, Diminishing The Role Of Evaluation Of Il28b Snps, These Preserve Their Role In Some Geographic Areas With Limited Financial Resources. The Identification Of Il28b Polymorphism May Have A Role As A Predictive Factor For Sustained Viral Response (Svr) For Pacients Receiving Soc. Also, Il28b Poly- Morphism Identification Could Have A Role In The Context Of Triple Therapy, Identifying Patients That Could Benefit Only From Double Therapy (Soc) Or For The Implementation Of Response-guided Therapy In Triple Association.
